Annual Century Bike Event - Usually held the Saturday after Labor Day, this event is usually attended by about 50 cyclists.Beaver Pond Trail creates an a dditional mile of backcountry trails.2-Mile Wood's Trail - Named in honor of former Park Superintendent John Wood, this primitive hiking, snowshoeing, and ski trail was made posible through a Federal Trails Grant of $10,000.Night Skiing on Tuesdays and Thursday when conditions allow.Trail Grooming and Maintenance of 10 miles of x-country ski trails for nordic and skate skiing.It also serves as the hub for many activities at the Park from the Summer Naturalist Program, the Century Bike Event, and many winter events. This multi-functional building provides space for skiers in the winter and houses the Park's Nature Center in the summer. Higley Trails Lodge - Completed in 2014.

Expand and implement educational programs.Provide support of activities for the benefit of the Park through volunteers & membership and encourage public participation in these activities.Seek and administer grants, gifts, donations, and in-kind support for the Friends projects including outdoor interpretive programs, park projects, and trail development & maintenance.Engcourage protection, preservation, and improvement of Park facilities and natural environment.Providing a higher level of public awareness, understanding, appreciation, and respect for Higley Flow State Park's natural resources and activities.The Friends of Higley Flow State Park is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to Let's all follow the rules and make sure that dogs continue to be welcome.

An exuberant unleashed dog running around the lodge area can frighten and knock down little ones.ĭanielle Jerry and Bob Platte did a presentation at Winterfest on ski-joring - a way to enjoy the trails with your pet and ski hands free of a leash. We have a lot of little children at the Park now. Animals can be oblivious to skiers and may cause injury by hitting people or appearing in the middle of a track on a downhill, causing falls. Skiers have expressed issues with unleashed dogs.Īdditionally, unleashed pets may stray and pick up a deer scent, follow, and become a missing pet. There is something joyous about seeing a dog run free and happy, but the Park is not the place for that. Leashed dogs are welcome at the Park and owners are to be commended for keeping the trails poop free. This is a touchy subject because we all love our pets and think that they are exceptional members of our families deserving special privileges but an issue has come up multiple times to the point that it needs to be addressed.
